COVID 19 Statements
COVID 19 Update: May 1st, 2020
RDS is committed to protecting the health and safety of our staff and community.
The purpose of the Shelter in Place Order is to slow the spread and flatten the curve of the transmission of COVID 19 to ensure that our healthcare system is not over-run and that people who experience severe illness are able to receive prompt, proper care.
Thankfully, as hospitalization numbers show, the Shelter In Place has been effective in Illinois and we are achieving the goal of flattening the curve.
Our hospitals are well below capacity and no one is being denied care.
RDS has been very cautious and conservative in making decisions about when and how to resume testing. We shut down entirely for the initial two weeks of the Shelter in Place Order. After that, we determined we could safely resume testing vacant properties and now, with the success of the Shelter in Place order and an even better understanding of how the virus spreads and with proper precautions,
RDS will resume full operations on Monday, May 4th, testing both vacant and occupied homes.
COVID 19 Update: April 5th, 2020
The health and safety of our staff and community is our top priority and we have been watching with everyone else how the situation has developed and have been trying to figure out how we can safely resume service.
With what we have learned during the time period of the initial order, we have come to have confidence that we can safely resume testing in vacant properties at this point.
Our field testing services will resume on Tuesday, April 7th.
For the time being, we will not be attending group appointments, such as home inspections. Rather, we will work with the site contact to make an individual appointment for our technician.
If you have a test that has been pending, we will be in touch the afternoon of Monday April 4th to arrange appointments and access.
COVID 19 Statement: March 20, 2020
In accordance with the Shelter In Place order, we are suspending our field operations until April 8th.
Many people have reminded us that Real Estate Services are exempt from the order and that we could continue operations. Please know: Our technicians can visit more than a dozen homes per day: Homes people are trying to keep safe for their families.
If we truly have a health and safety mission, it has to extend past radon. The spread of COVID 19 is a much greater threat to many more people’s health than the delay of testing individual homes for a few weeks, and far more important than the annoyance of an extension for the radon test results in a real estate transaction.
Our commitment requires us to suspend operations until the immediate health threat posed by COVID 19 is under control.
During these next two weeks, RDS will assess our field procedures. If the Shelter In Place order is extended past April 7th, RDS will make a determination as to whether or not we can resume service before the order is lifted with consistent and meaningful practices in place to reduce COVID 19 spread and exposure. Once RDS resumes service, (whether it be before or after the order is lifted), RDS technicians and staff will be using updated procedures to reduce exposure and transmission while the world waits for an effective treatment or preventative.
We want to acknowledge everyone’s sacrifice and efforts at this time, whether you are staying home voluntarily and forgoing income, or working in one of the life-sustaining industries risking exposure and your health. We can get through this together, and hopefully better for it in the end.
Our office staff members are working from home. If you have any questions or would like to place an order for a test for when we are back up and running, we are happy to help.
We appreciate your patience and look forward to serving you again very soon.
